Nearly a year after the horrific massacre at the Har Nof synagogue last November in which two Palestinian terrorists murdered five Israelis, another victim succumbed to the wounds he sustained during the attack and died on Saturday.

Rabbi Haim Yehiel Rothman, 55, a native of Canada and the father of 11, received multiple blows to the head from an axe during the attack, and had been hospitalized in a coma ever since.

Hundreds attended his funeral late Saturday night, including Jerusalem’s Mayor Nir Barkat.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Rothman’s son thanked him for years of loving dedication. His daughter Yaffa wrote on Facebook that her father was murdered by “inhumane beasts” while “fighting them and saving other worshipers.”

He was described by his friends as one of the most special members of the community who always had a smile on his face and was always willing to help.

The terrorists murdered five worshippers and one police officer who responded to the distress calls, and seriously wounded several others.

The first five victims were the Rabbis Aryeh Kupinsky, 43, Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, 68, Kalman Ze’ev Levine, 55, and Moshe Twersky, 59, and First Sergeant Zidan Saif, 30, of the Druze community.

Both terrorists, cousins Uday Abu Jamal and Ghassan Abu Jamal from Jabl Mukaber in Jerusalem, were killed at the scene by police.
