Hamas: PA’s Diplomatic Maneuver ‘Political Foolishness’

The PA is meeting opposition for its diplomatic warfare against Israel – even from the Palestinians themselves.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) is plowing ahead with it diplomatic warfare against Israel, although many Palestinians are opposed.

The Hamas terror organization, which controls the Gaza Strip, announced on Monday that it completely disagreed with the PA’s latest diplomatic move against Israel, that being the re-submission of its statehood resolution to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) calling for an end to the Israeli “occupation” of Judea and Samaria by the end of 2017.

“Hamas is totally opposed to any return to the UN Security Council by the Palestinian Authority,” spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said in a statement. “Such a step would be political foolishness which plays a dangerous game with the destiny of our nation.”

“Mahmoud Abbas and the leadership of the Palestinian Authority should completely stop this political foolishness,” Abu Zuhri added.

The UNSC composition changed at the beginning of this month. Australia, which supported Israel in the last Palestinian bid for statehood, and Nigeria, which abstained instead of supporting the Palestinians, are out, while anti-Israel Malaysia and Venezuela are in. The PA therefore seems to believe that it has a better shot at passing its bid with the current configuration.

Hamas criticized PA head Mahmoud Abbas last week for his application to join the International Criminal Court (ICC) and several other international conventions and treaties, saying Abbas does not have the authority to make such decisions on his own and that they must be approved by the entire Palestinian parliament, which includes both Hamas and the PA since the formation of a unity government in June.

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) also demanded that the PA invite all Palestinian factions to discuss the issue.
